They would call him "The Flea" because he was so fast and agile. Leo Messi has been dominating world football for the last decade and still shows no signs of slowing down. The age old debate still beckons, who is the greatest in the world, Ronaldo or MessI? For a very long time, since his days at United I have always been a huge Ronaldo fan - he's the complete package. He even levelled up the ballon do'r awards to five a piece with Leo and despite being a huge fan of his, I still prefer Messi.
Why would I prefer Messi when I think that Ronaldo is a much more rounded player with the ability to score from anywhere in any way possible? Because Lionel Messi to me is an artist, a magician with a way of playing football that leaves you dazzled every time you see him play. Ronaldo is incredible and in my opinion in the top 5 greatest players of all time, you cannot argue with what he's accomplished.
Ronaldo appears to be a product of an insane amount of work where Messi it seems as if it's just natural to him. That's not to say Messi hasn't put in the same work, of course he's worked harder than most to get to the level he's at - but when you watch him play, there's something different about him. There's many arguments you can make either for or against both of them, whether it be that Messi has only played in the one team where Ronaldo has been successful in multiple leagues but there's no doubting that they're both big game players.
I personally have formed the opinion that Messi is the better player by simply just watching the two of them play. It's a matter of taste, if you value physical attributes and the complete package then you'll say Ronaldo is better - but if you value art and a style of football, then you'll say Messi. The way Leo plays football, his assists, passing, scoring and ability to read the play for me is on another planet.
My favourite part of Lionel Messi's game though is his dribbling. Other than Maradona, I've never seen anything like it. There's no one close to him in the world today who can beat players with such simplicity, it's beautiful to watch. Messi at times can look out of the game and before you even realise it, he's scored against you. If you take a look at his highlight reel, you come away from it thinking, "how could anyone be better than that?!"
I love Cristiano Ronaldo as a player, he's always been my favourite player because of his hard work ethic and desire to be the best. That can often cause you to come across as arrogant and unlikeable, but for him it's necessary to develop his own mindset. We don't say this about Conor McGregor (huge fan of him as well) even though he's certainly said more arrogant things than Cristiano. Conor is just more likeable, he's cheeky and funny, something Cristiano hasn't tried to promote himself as, as much.
Despite all this, I've always been a huge Ronaldo fan and for many years thought he was the best. However, after simply just watching so much of Leo Messi play, it became impossible to argue with the fact that he's the greatest player I've ever seen.
