Do you Love the Game?

Do you actually love everything about Football?

This is an incredibly important question to anyone who is seriously considering a career in Football. I've seen many players in the past waste many years of their life training and pursuing a career in Football, only to realise a number of years later that they don't actually enjoy what they're doing.

In the past I've played with people who were either pushed by their parents or their coach to train. They were told that they could make it to the top level if they worked hard so this is what they did. However, these people didn't love what they were doing - they were doing it to please everyone else around them.

Whatever it is you do in life, if your focus is to please other people and make them happy with your accomplishments then you are never going to be truly happy. You need to pursue what it is you want to pursue, the thing that lights that fire in your belly that you're truly driven to do. When it comes to Football, only the players that have this will succeed.

You have to enjoy your Football training because if you don't, it's so much harder to push yourself. Every morning you wake up you need to be thinking about Football and be excited for your training sessions ahead for the day.

To make it as a professional footballer you will come up against so many other players of similar ability levels all vying for the same spot as you. Can you guess who are the ones that make it? You're right it's the ones who are driven and love what they do. They are the ones who are always willing to give it that bit extra because they're fighting for more than you are - this is what they truly want in life!

Now I go back to my original question, do you love the game?
Before you start to train to the levels that are required you must know this answer because if you don't, you will waste a lot of time. I'm not saying that you shouldn't play Football at all if you don't love it, I'm saying that to push yourself to the level of 6-8 hours of training a day to make it to the top level, you have to enjoy the process.

  • Do you watch a lot of Football on TV?

  • Are you genuinely interested in the different tactics teams use?

  • Are you motivated to train by yourself without anyone telling you to?

  • Do you already spend a ridiculous amount of time with a ball by your side?

IF the answers to all of these questions are a strong yes, then I believe you - you love the game.

The purpose of this article is to make you think about your feelings towards the beautiful game. Please give it some thought, it's a huge question to think about before you embark on the heavy training schedule of pursuing this career. You will have to make many sacrifices to make it and you need to know if you're willing to do this...
